[...] Prosper recently filed a fourth amendment to its regulatory filing with the SEC. This new revision of the peer lender’s S-1 has removed the concept of “Open Market Loans” entirely, and seems to focus Prosper back on track to simply being a loan originator with a secondary market.
I've had no problems using the P2P companies I am with. Never tried Prosper though...

This whole concept could go mainstream though.

BankVibe.com calls it an alternative to bank CD's

Mia, I think it's the "open market loans" that are probably giving the SEC pause. Lending Club doesn't do anything like that, and it represents the biggest difference between the companies.

And the more I think about it, securitizing existing loans is a service that investment banks aren't doing anymore, so if Prosper can pick up that business (and make consumers actually buy those notes), it could actually be a big win for them. Conceptually, it's a mammoth idea.

Seriously, though, when are they reopening? It seems to me they copied everything Lending Club did. are they unique anymore? shouldn't that be enough for the SEC?
